Ebadot Hossain bowled a sensational late spell to wrestle back the initiative in favour of Bangladesh just as New Zealand were looking to get their noses in front on a topsy-turvy day of Test cricket at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.

The tall fast bowler got rid of Will Young (69) and Henry Nicholls (0) in the same over – both bowled with two peaches – before getting rid of Tom Blundell in the following over as New Zealand lost three wickets for no runs right after taking the lead. The Kiwis ended the day at 147 for five, 17 runs ahead of Bangladesh, with Ross Taylor (37*) and Rachin Rvindra (6*) at the crease.

The turnaround from Bangladesh started with the prized scalp of Young, who together with Taylor, had just taken the hosts past Bangladesh's total with a 73-run partnership after Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot had left them 63 for two at one stage.

Ebadot, who had previously had only 11 wickets in 10 matches, ended the day with figures of 4-39 in 17 overs. Taskin gave away 22 runs in nine overs, accounting for the dismissal of New Zealand skipper Tom Latham (14).

Bangladesh were guilty, though, of missing chances in the field and poor judgement of reviews as New Zealand survived a number of close calls during the third wicket partnership and had looked in control before the rampaging spell from Ebadot turned things around.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh added 57 runs to their overnight score before being bowled out for 458, taking a first-innings lead of 130 runs.

With any of three results still a possibility, the final day of this riveting Test match is poised for more thrilling stuff, with Bangladesh, after dominating four days, looking like the team in command.
