No hush-hush when it comes to how Mash rates Domingo
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza today did not shy away from voicing his scepticism towards Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo and yet the former Bangladesh captain still hopes that Domingo will prove him wrong in the challenging South Africa tour, starting from tomorrow in Centurion.
"I think his (Russell Domingo) performance curve so far has been on the decline. Let's see whether he can return with something extraordinary from the South Africa tour," said Mashrafe, who practiced today in Mirpur ahead of his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Legends of Rupganj's match tomorrow.
In recent times, Mashrafe had openly criticised Domingo and other South Africans in the Tigers' coaching panel. In October last year, the former captain accused Domingo of not supporting the team and not doing his job properly.
On the other hand, when asked about Mashrafe after Bangladesh's first ODI victory against Afghanistan last month, Domingo responded: "To be honest, I am not interested in players that are not part of the national squad. Like I said, noise from outside – what people say or write – not that important in my life. My focus is on my team, my family and my job. Not too much else."
Mashrafe, today, mentioned the players have a lot of complaints against the South African.
"It's in BCB's jurisdiction [regarding changing the coach] but what I think is that his performance graph isn't supporting anything in his favour.
"Most important thing is the players have a lot of complaints against him. First thing is a happy dressing room. But if it is now happy, then fine. I didn't get that impression and that's why I openly spoke about it," revealed Mashrafe.
"He [Domingo] is familiar with the culture, environment and wicket. I am hoping that he will play a big role in the series.
"When team get success under him, he will get the credit but so far his performance graph has been on the decline," Mash reiterated his scepticism on Domingo.
