Shakib welcomes Sohan's appointment
Bangladesh Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan has welcomed the thought process of Bangladesh Cricket Board in appointing Nurul Hasan Sohan as the captain of the T20I side for the upcoming Zimbabwe series.
According to the champion all-rounder, Sohan is capable of leading the side.
"I think he is capable and the BCB thought that Sohan will be able to give a lot of things to Bangladesh cricket in future, which is the reason he was appointed captain of the T20I side. I wish him all the best and I hope the upcoming Zimbabwe series will be a challenge he will be able to overcome," Shakib told the media during a commercial endorsement in Chattogram on Saturday.
The selectors have rested two experienced cricketers -- regular T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad alongside Mushfiqur Rahim -- from the upcoming T20I series in Zimbabwe. However, both will feature in the three match ODI series.
Shakib, who had already asked for a break from the Zimbabwe series, will also not be part of the team. There were talks that the 35-year-old could take up the role of T20I captain replacing Mahmudullah from the upcoming Asia Cup later this year.
However, Shakib said he was focusing only on his Test leadership.
"I think it will take time for us to do well in the Test format. There is a possibility that the team will go through a transition period which is the reason it might take some time for us," he said.
