Rangpur Riders all-rounder Sheikh Mahedi starred with his first fifty of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League as Rangpur handed Dhaka their seventh defeat with a five-wicket win at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Mahedi smashed five sixes and six fours dismantling the bowlers with his 43-ball 72-run knock which was instrumental for Rangpur chasing down Dhaka's 144 for five. The all-rounder also delivered with the ball keeping things tight from his end as he finished with figures of one for 13 runs.

The right-handed batter, however, couldn't see his team through as he fell lbw to Al-Amin Hossain and it was Pakistan's Mohammad Nawaz and Afghan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai who steered Rangpur to victory with the dormer heaving a six over mid-wicket to finish off proceedings remaining unbeaten on 17 off 15 balls, while Omarzai was not out on 12 at the other end.

Earlier in the day, Dhaka's batting woes continued with their openers once again misfiring. The middle-order didn't raise much hope either as they struggled to get going but Usman Ghani managed to overcome their batting slump and scored an unbeaten 55-ball 73 hitting three sixes and seven fours as he top-scored taking his side to 144.
