Rizwan fifty guides Comilla to six-wicket win over bottom-placed Chattogram
Comilla Victorians' marauding run continues as they picked up their seventh win of the Bangladesh Premier League beating bottom-placed Chattogram Challengers banking on a fifty by opener Mohammad Rizwan.
Chasing Chattogram's 157 for four, Rizwan smashed hit five fours and two sixes for his 47-ball 61 to help set up a successful chase but the right-handed batter failed to see his team through falling to Mrittunjoy Chowdhury.
However, a steady 27-ball 37 from Mosaddek Hossain ensured Comilla's victory with six wickets in and an over to spare.
Having opted to bat first, Chattogram got off to a horrid start losing Mehedi Maruf, and Khawaja Nafay to Tanvir Islam within the first three overs with their score not having crossed 10.
But Usman Khan and Afif Hossain steadied the ship and staged a remarkable turnaround as they put together an 88-run stand for the third wicket, with both batters reaching their fifties. But Usman, who hit three sixes and four boundaries for his 41-ball 52, perished to medium pacer Shykat Ali soon after reaching the milestone. Afif, on the other hand, motored on scoring a 49-ball 66 which featured six fours and two sixes but he was trapped lbw by Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali.
A late surge from Darwish Rasooli who smashed a nine-ball 21 ensured Chattogram's total went past the 150-mark.
In reply, Comilla lost opener Shykat early to Mrittunjoy and medium pacer Ziaur Rahman castled Comilla skipper Imrul Kayes leaving them two down for 42 runs at the end of the powerplay.
Ziaur bowled smartly and sent back dangerman Johnson Charles (9) cheaply in the ninth over but a 76-run stand between Rizwan and Mosaddek batted Chattogram out of the game.
