Vaas excited for first stint as BPL coach
Former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas mentioned he was excited and looking forward to his first stint in the Bangladesh Premier League as coach of the Dhaka Dominators.
"I'm so excited and looking forward to the tournament. I am confident with my team," Vaas, who is set for the role of the head coach for the first time in any franchise cricket league outside Sri Lanka, said.
Dhaka's pace unit will be led by Bangladesh pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed who had a tremendous 2022 with standout performances in all three formats.
Vaas was optimistic that Taskin, who has been troubled by injuries throughout his career, would be able to dominate.
"He [Taskin] has been doing very well and adapting to all conditions as the leading fast bowler in Bangladesh. It's all about confidence and a positive approach and being a fast bowler, you tend to get niggles and injuries. But you need to cope with all these injuries and represent your country. I am pretty sure he will give his best for the Dhaka Dominators," he told the reporters.
The 48-year-old will bring all his experience but this time as a coach and will have the luxury of choosing from an experienced bunch including players like Taskin, Soumya Sarkar, Al-Amin Hossain, Nasir Hossain, and Arafat Sunny and youngsters like Shoriful Islam.
"I have seen Shoriful play for Bangladesh. He is very talented and a really good bowler and is still very young. He has a lot of years to play for Bangladesh and I look forward to working with him," Vaas said.
