More prospects for business as scientists develop new strains of chicken

Almost every Bangladeshi household yearns for the nostalgia of "deshi" chicken. But this yearning comes with a high price tag.

Luckily scientists of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have developed two chicken varieties with the potential to usher in a new era in poultry farming.

Developed from native chicken germplasm, they grow quickly, consume very little and are disease-resistant.

How have scientists developed these new varieties? Will these have a production cost as low as broiler chicken?
