A Revolution Hundred Years in The Making
There is a movement rising at the periphery of the country, where tea workers are finally taking to the street in a coordinated move against the century-long oppression they've been facing. The epicentre of the movement is Chandpur Tea Estate, in Habiganj and the final straw was a governmental move to create a special economic zone on 512 acres of farmland. Today, they march the streets chanting 'Amar Mati, Amar Ma, Kere Nite Dibo Na' (my land is my mother, you will not take it away from me). To learn more about the tea workers' movement demanding rights to their land, check out this week's Spotlight.
