After a long hiatus, four iconic bands from the 90s are set to share the stage once again. The much-anticipated concert, titled “Dhaka Retro,” will bring together Nagar Baul, Ark, Miles, and Dalchhut for a memorable night of melodies.
Miles, a renowned Bangladeshi band, struck a chord with the youth of Kolkata, especially during the 1990s. Shafin Ahmed, a former leading light in the band, became an icon for aspiring musicians in the band music scene. The recent passing of Shafin Ahmed has left a void in the hearts of many in Bengal, especially in Kolkata, as they mourn the loss of the star.
“I cannot believe that we are seeing scenes like this on the streets of Bangladesh, our own people being treated like this, unbelievable,” wrote Shafin Ahmed four days ago on his Facebook profile. Little did he know that this would be the last visual he would have of his beloved motherland. All his life, Shafin had raised his voice against whatever he perceived as injustice– which also led him to leave the band he helped make legendary, Miles.
In a recent online debacle, discord between the members of the iconic band 'Miles' has surfaced, shedding light on a tangled web of disagreements and financial disputes. The rift primarily involves Shafin Ahmed and Hamin Ahmed, brothers and integral members of the band, whose differences have spilled over onto various social media platforms, especially Facebook.
The “Bangladeshi rock band encyclopaedia” is authored by music journalists Milu Aman and Haque Faruk, depicting the chronological history of 180 music bands in the country.
Songs like "Neela", "Dhiki Dhiki", and "Phiriye Dao" defined the era.
Shafin Ahmed, the vocal of iconic Bangla rock band Miles, is all set to make his acting debut.
