In continuation of their tradition of honouring esteemed female theatre personalities every International Women’s Day, the Swapnadal theatre troupe arranges this award ceremony on March 8 every year.
Under their two-day long initiative, titled “Natyacharya Selim Al Deen Smaran Utsab”, they will stage two of their most popular shows, “Chitrangada” and “Macbeth” on January 13 and 14 respectively, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Prominent theatre troupes Prachyanat, Nagorik Natya Sampradaya, Aranyak Natyadal, Swapnadal, Meghdoot, Theatre, Batighar and others have planned to bring a new and intriguing set of theatrics to the stage as well for the year 2024 as well.
Rabindranath’s Chitrangada has mostly been adapted in dance-drama form, but theater troupe Swapnadal was adamant on narrating the mythological princess of the Kingdom of Manipur into a modern day ‘jatrabala’ styled drama for the audiences. Their unique adaptation of ‘Chitrangada’ caught the eyes of Asia’s largest theatre festival, as they are all set to perform at 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav, Delhi on February.
On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of theatre troupe Swapnadal, the troupe has organised dual exhibitions of their most popular production, "Chitrangada" directed by Zahid Repon.
Theatre troupe Swapnadal's anti-war production “Tringsha Shatabdi” has been selected for London Tower Hamlets Counsil's 'A Season of Bangla Drama', a month-long festival starting November 1.
