The National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) lit up last Saturday with a vibrant gathering of popular faces from the acting world. Through direct votes, the Actors Equity Bangladesh elected a new leadership panel of 21 members, including its president and general secretary.
This year’s election saw Azad Abul Kalam contesting for the presidency against Abdullah Rana, and Rashed Mamun Apu vying for the general secretary role against Shahed Sharif Khan.
Actor Rashed Mamun Apu, whose films “Daagi” and “Jongli” hit theatres this Eid, described the festive season as a significant milestone for Bangladeshi cinema.
Afran Nisho has once again captivated audiences—this time not on screen, but through a striking promotional appearance for his upcoming film “Daagi”. The popular actor was recently spotted in a prisoner’s uniform, numbered ‘786’, handcuffed and flanked by two men dressed as police officers, in a scene that instantly sparked buzz on social media.
The upcoming film “Daagi” has recently unveiled its romantic track “Ektukhani Mon”, penned by Sadat Hossain and performed by artistes Tahsan and Masha.
Speaking about his character in the project, Rashed Mamun Apu shared, “I play a journalist from a small town who is also a TikToker. He works for a little-known online news portal. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this character as well.”
Mizanur Rahman Labu’s upcoming film “Atorbibilen” has received clearance from the Censor Certification Board. Following the approval, the director and producers aim to release the film in theatres later this year, and preparations for its release have already begun.
The Vicky Zahed-directed film, titled “Andhokarer Gaan”, revolves around a love story at its core. Apu plays the son of a wealthy man, a young individual struggling with drug addiction.
Emerging star Neelanjona Neela made her silver screen debut in 2017 with Badrul Anam Saud's film “Gohin Baluchor”. However, she remained absent from cinema for a significant period. After a seven-year hiatus, she returned to the big screen this year, once again under Saud's direction, in “Shyama Kabya”.

With several projects lined up for release after Eid-ul-Azha, including M Raahim’s directorial “Jongli”, his career shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh from an enriching trip to Bulgaria for the screening of his film "Kath Golap", Apu sat down with The Daily Star for an exclusive interview to discuss his recent experiences, upcoming projects, and future aspirations in the world of showbiz.
