The iconic DMC DeLorean, made famous by the Back to the Future films, is set to be reborn as an all-electric sports car, nearly 40 years after its first release. 

The DeLorean Motor Company teased the return of the iconic car in a tweet released just before the Super Bowl on February 14. The tweet reads, "The Future was never promised. Reimagine today."

The tweet showcases a 15-second video that reveals the familiar gull-wing doors in a silhouette. The accompanying hashtags reveal that it will be an electric vehicle with a luxury focus.

The original DeLorean lasted only briefly between 1981 and 1982 after it was shot to mainstream popularity following the release of the first Back to the Future film. 

Although production of the car stopped in 1982 and the original DeLorean Motor Company went bankrupt in the same year, the car has remained an iconic fantasy among fans of the movies and petrolheads alike.
