Battery-run rickshaw drivers block Agargaon intersection
Drivers of battery-run rickshaws blocked the Agargaon intersection this morning, causing significant disruption to commuters.
The protest, which began around 11:00am, has brought traffic to a standstill, with roads still blocked as of 12:55pm, our photojournalist reported from the spot.
The drivers are protesting the recent HC directive to government authorities to take necessary measures to stop the plying of battery-run rickshaws and auto-rickshaws on the capital's streets within three days.
"We will not leave the roads until our demands are met," one protester said.
The blockade has led to traffic congestion, forcing vehicles to take alternative routes.
Tina Chowdhury, a university student who was travelling from Mirpur to Farmgate, shared her experience, saying, "Usually it takes me 30 minutes to reach my university. Today, it took more than an hour."
Meanwhile, a team of 15-20 rickshaw and easy-van drivers sat with DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzad to discuss the Dhaka-wide chaos centring the ban on battery-run rickshaw and auto-rickshaw.
