593 Bangladeshis stuck in India return through Akhaura, Benapole land ports

A total of 585 Bangladeshis, who were stranded in India due to the ongoing border closure returned to the country through Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria from April 26 to May 15, according to the data of Special Branch of Police in Brahmanbaria district.

Meanwhile 15 people who are employees of the Indian Embassy in Bangladesh also entered the country through Akhaura land port between April 26 and May 15, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent quoting Md Imtiaz Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Special Branch of Brahmanbaria Police.

They returned to the country with no objection certificates (NOCs) from Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Tripura's Agartala and Covid-19 negative certificates, sources said.

On the other hand, 185 Indians who were stranded in Bangladesh due to the border closure have returned to India in this time as well.

Quoting Abdul Hamid, in-charge of Akhaura international immigration check-post police, district police said of the 585 total Bangladeshi returnees, 12 returned to the country yesterday.

Every returning passenger has to be in a 14-day mandatory quarantine. Currently, 273 passengers are in institutional quarantine.

Meanwhile, through Benapole land port in Jashore, eight passengers, who were stuck in India due to the border closure, have returned to the country today, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Immigration Police.Top of Form

All of them were kept in institutional quarantine.

Apart from that, operations at Darshana land port in Chuadanga resumed today to facilitate return of Bangladeshis stranded in India due to the border closure.
