Charak festival: A different kind of Pahela Baishakh celebration in Pabna

People from all walks of life in Satbaria village of Pabna’s Sujanagar upazila celebrate the first day of the Bangla New Year with the century-old tradition of Charak festival.

As part of the festivities, participants swing from the “Charak tree” with iron hooks pierced on their back, drawing thousands of people from the adjoining areas and also across the country to witness this astonishing feat.
