7 killed in landslides in India’s Manipur
At least seven persons were killed and many were injured as landslides, set off by torrential rains, struck different places in north eastern Indian state of Manipur's Tamenglong town early today, a senior official said.
Two people also went missing in the landslides, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The bodies of seven of the nine persons missing following the landslides have been recovered, the correspondent reports quoting District Deputy Commissioner Rabinder Singh.
Seven people were injured in the incident, Singh added.
Security personnel and locals are carrying out rescue operations, Singh said.
The entire north eastern region of India is experiencing heavy rains for the last few days with landslides and flash floods reported from Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland.
The flood situation has deteriorated in Assam with 17 deaths reported so far with around 24,000 people still trapped in the deluge in four districts, an official report said.
