6 RU students injured in clash with RMCH employees
At least six students of Rajshahi University have been injured in an attack allegedly carried out by the staffers of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) during the students' protest on the hospital premises over the death of RU student Shahriar.
The injured students are Haradhan Nath Akash, Samir, Ahad and Nazmul. All of them are fourth-year students of the Marketing Department at RU, Sajjad Hossain Arnab, a student of the same year who was present at the spot, confirmed it to The Daily Star.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital, he said.
RU Student Advisor Associate Professor Tareq Noor said a clash ensued between the RU students and RMCH staffers.
Earlier, the students vandalised RMCH premises alleging negligence in the treatment of RU student Shahriar who breathed his last at 9:00 pm last night at the hospital after falling off from the top floor of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall.
RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani said, "We are trying to bring the situation under control. Then action will be taken against those who are guilty. Besides, we have talked to the RU administration. We are asking both sides to maintain calm."
The students have been protesting at the hospital alleging that the doctor delayed starting the treatment.
The students alleged that Shahriar was taken to the hospital but the doctor did not come on time. Although a complaint was made in this regard, the authorities did not take appropriate action, they alleged.
