Accused of teasing CUET female student: Police constable withdrawn

A police constable was withdrawn from Chittagong University Of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Police Outpost over allegedly teasing a student of the Civil Engineering department tonight (August 24, 2022).

The accused Md Sohel, was attached to Halishahar Police Lines after the incident, Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Harun told The Daily Star.

According to police and campus sources, two male and two female students went to a hotel at around 6:30pm for having snacks nearby the CUET front entrance. The constable was in civil dress in the hotel and having tea. At one point, he allegedly postured indecent looks to a female student triggering an altercation inside the hotel between the students and the cop, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Later the students took him to CUET Police Outpost and informed the senior officials and teachers. On information, teachers and senior officials rushed to the spot and calmed the situation giving assurance of withdrawn.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rangunia Circle) Md Anwar Hossain Shamim said, "We rushed to the campus after learning the matter. We will conduct a departmental inquiry in this regard."
