DU human chain demands justice for student attacked for protesting eve-teasing
A group of Dhaka University students today (August 29, 2022) demanded justice for a student of the university, Emon Hossain, as he was severely injured in an attack by a teen gang for protesting eve-teasing at Uttara on August 21.
Emon and his elder brother were attacked by the gang at the same time, reports our DU correspondent quoting students.
From a human chain at the base of the Raju Memorial sculpture, the students also demanded to ensure justice and urged the law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps against such kind of crimes.
Around 30 students participated in the programme held around noon.
"We know eve-teasing is a punishable offence. Emon protested the crime which was why he came under attack by a gang of teenagers. We want justice for the incident," said Zareen Tasneem Prova, a student in the Health Economics department of the university.
Another Tourism and Hospitality Department student, Farzana Munni, said, "We have criminalised eve-teasing. It is an unusual matter today. We should stand strong against this. But when Emon stood against it, he came under attack. We demand the arrest of those attackers as soon as possible."
Khonika Bus Committee President Atiqul Islam said Emon had filed a case a week ago. However, no one has been arrested till now. "We want immediate arrest of the culprits."
