Intruder at JU female dormitory hurls abuse at students, creates panic
An unidentified youth entered Sheikh Hasina Hall of Jahangirnagar University and hurled abuse at the students early today, spreading panic at the female dormitory.
A student of the hall said, "A youth stood by the window of my room around 5:30am. He hurled abuse at us. As we shouted, he still remained standing there. He didn't look scared."
There is no report of the intruder getting caught or stealing anything.
She asked, "Do the guards sleep or are they involved in this? Why couldn't the guards catch him? Where is our security in our dorm?"
Another student, of Journalism and Media Studies department, said, "Around 5:30am, the students started shouting that there was a thief in the hall. And I was very scared."
She added, "We aren't safe on the campus anymore. But aren't we safe in our dorms too?"
Sheikh Hasina Hall Provost Hosne Ara said, "I am in the hall now; what happened was very bad. It is a matter of safety of female students."
When asked how he managed to enter the hall, she answered, "That's what I came here to find out. How he made it possible!"
A probe committee has been formed and it will submit a report in three working days.
Sudipto Saheen, chief security officer of JU, said, "There was a concert last night and it ended around 3:00am. There were allegations of mugging and harassment of female students by outsiders."
He added, "There was a report of clash on the campus. And I sent some injured to the hospital last night. We are ready to take action against the outsiders if we get instructions by the authority."
