PUST VC confined for 4.5hrs after meeting with teachers foiled

The faculty members at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) confined Vice Chancellor Md Rostom Ali in his office for four and half hours after a  meeting was foiled today.

The faculty members did not allow the VC to come out of his office from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm when a meeting of PUST's highest decision-making forum -- Regent Board ­– was foiled, the university's Registrar Bijon Kumar Brahma told our Pabna correspondent.

In the meeting, the faculty members were expected to discuss around 60 agendas including their promotions but VC Rostom Ali first placed his nephew's recruitment and other recruitment matters.

This made the teachers agitated and they expressed that they did not agree with the matter of the recruitment of the VC's nephew, said the university's teacher Abdul Halim, former president of the Bangla department.

Then, the meeting was foiled and the agitated teachers confined the VC in his room from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, he said.

Later, Pabna-1 lawmaker Shamsul Haque Tuku went there and brought the situation under control and assured the teachers to discuss their issues and demands in a meeting on February 24.
