Sexual harassment allegation: Committee recommends relieving DU teacher of duties
The academic committee of Dhaka University's music department has recommended relieving Anamul Haque, an assistant professor of the department, from all academic activities as they have primarily gathered proof supporting allegation of sexual harassment against the teacher.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided by Prof Dr Debproshad Dawn, the chairman of the department, on August 17 in presence of members of the committee.
Professor Dawn confirmed the matter to our DU correspondent today.
Anamul Haque allegedly proposed an unethical relationship to one of his students over the phone. The committee recommended the punishment based on a phone record, as per sources.
"Most of the members have opined in favour of relieving the teacher from all academic activities of the department as we got proof of the allegation", said Prof Dr Debproshad Dawn.
The higher authorities of the university will take further decision on the matter.
DU Pro-vice Chancellor (academic) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal said that the allegation against the teacher is serious.
"We will take stern action as per the university rules. Most of the time we take departmental action through syndicate meeting," he said.
The assistant professor, however, declined to make any comment on the issue over phone.
