Sust BCL activist beaten up for protesting ‘harassment’ of female student
An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) was allegedly beaten up by a group of his fellow organisation members last night.
The victim, Fardin Ahmed, a fourth-year student of business administration department, was undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital after he was admitted there last night, reports our district correspondent.
According to campus sources, one of his friends and a female student were chatting at the central field of the university around 8:30pm yesterday. This was when a group of BCL activists harassed the girl as well the the boy.
On information, Fardin rushed to the spot where he confronted the group and an altercation began, they said.
That night around 10:00pm, after Fardin returned to his dormitory, Shahparan Hall, he was beaten by the BCL activists, allegedly led by Sazzadur Rahman, a follower of Sajibur Rahman, former joint office secretary of the university unit BCL.
Some of Fardin's friends were also beaten up while trying to rescue him.
Contacted, Sajibur said the juniors argued over some issues and it was later settled by the seniors.
This correspondent could not reach Sazzad for his comments.
Dr Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Khan, provost of Shahporan Hall, did not respond to phone calls of our correspondent.
