A young expatriate woman was found dead in a drum at Jatrabari in the city on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as Afroza Akhter Polly, 26, of Fatulla in Narayanganj. She was living in New Zealand with her husband Abdul Gafur alias Rahman Mia.

Locals informed the police when they found a large drum on the road at Purbo Dhulairpar. Later police recovered the body of Afroza from inside the drum and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Family sources said that Afroza had been missing since Tuesday morning after she left home at around 8:00am to see a piece of land she bought at Bashundhara in Badda.

Afroza's cousin Tuhin told The Daily Star that he called Afroza at around 11:00am on the day of the incident when she told him that she was at her brother-in-law Bellal Hossain's office at Ramna Bhaban in the city.

Police also seized four other drums Bellal's office containing the same serial number found on the drum from which Afroza's body was recovered.

Police took Bellal to Jatrabari Police Station for interrogation in this regard.
