Law and order under control
Law and order situation in the capital remains under control at present and the number of certain types of crime has fallen, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Naim Ahmed said yesterday.
According to the crime chart, 20 incidents of mugging were recorded this month until May 20. The last month's figure was 48 while 80 incidents of mugging took place in March, the commissioner said at a press briefing.
He also disclosed that the police have tracked down the criminals involved in the April 30 burglary at the Baridhara residence of Sarvajit Chakravarti, deputy high commissioner of India.
Two of the burglars -- Tulu alias Ayub Ali, a resident of Badda in Dhaka, and Amir Hossain -- were arrested, he said, adding that some stolen valuables, including a Samsung cellphone set and a VCD set, were also recovered from the possession of Tulu who was arrested in Khulna on Tuesday.
The commissioner also said that 38 stolen vehicles were recovered and 62 suspected car lifters arrested during an intensified drive from March 1 to May 20.
He also hoped that crime will remain under control as the police are active.
