Schoolboy commits suicide at hostel in city

A sixth grader of Holy Flower School & College at Lalmatia committed suicide yesterday at the school hostel in the city.

The victim was identified as Shohanur Rahman, 13, son of Jamal Hossain, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia and a resident student of the school hostel.

Police said they went to the school after being informed by the school authorities and found his body at around 4:00pm hanging from a ceiling fan in his room on the second floor of the school hostel.

They also found a towel around his neck that he used to kill himself.

Police quoting school authorities said Shohnaur was admitted to the hostel of Holy Flower School & College in February.

Shohanur's uncle brought him to the hostel against his will on Tuesday night after the end of summer vacation, police added.

A staff of the school went to Shohanur's room at noon as he did not turn up at the dinning hall for lunch. The staff informed the school authorities as he did not get any response after knocking at Shohanur's door several times. Later, the school authorities informed the police.
