Screening of Satyajit Ray Films
The Daily Star is honoured to arrange a film screening and discussion of Charulata and Kanchenjunga, marking beloved author Satyajit Ray's 97th birthday.
Charulata, released in 1964, is based on the novella Nastanirh by Rabindranath Tagore. It tells the story of a childless, beautiful, and intelligent woman, and is set at a time when the Bengal Renaissance was at its peak and India was under British Rule.
Kanchenjunga is a 1962 film about an upper-class Bengali family on vacation in Darjeeling. It was Ray's first original screenplay and for the first time, he shot in colour.
The screening and discussion will be held at The Daily Star- Bengal Arts Precincts at the Daily Star Centre today from 4pm onwards. We hope you are looking forward to the wonderful screen experience!
