Man’s body found in travel bag
Police yesterday recovered the beheaded body of a man from an abandoned luggage in Shambhuganj bridge area of Mymensingh city.
Police could not immediately identify the victim aged about 40, said Khondaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station.
A five-member bomb disposal unit reached the spot in the early morning and opened the luggage where they found a body wrapped in plastic, said Humayun Kabir, additional police superintendent of police in Mymensingh.
Several parts of the body were amputated, he said.
Terming the incident as a cold-blooded murder, police said the killing might have taken place somewhere outside the district and the perpetrators left the body there to mislead the law enforcers.
The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, OC Shaker said, adding that a murder case was lodged with Kotwali Police Station.
Earlier, police had the area cordoned off for about 14 hours since Sunday evening, suspecting there might be explosives inside the bag.
On Sunday morning, traffic policemen on duty noticed the red suitcase with no apparent owner at a CNG refuelling station on the approach road to Shambhuganj bridge around 11:00am.
Noting the luggage was still there until evening, traffic police informed the matter to Kotwali Police Station and a team of police rushed to the spot around 7:00pm.
