Stocks fall for second day
Stocks in Bangladesh fell slightly today stretching the loss to the second straight day.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), dropped 3 points, or 0.05 per cent, to close at 6,256 at the end of the day.
The DS30, the blue-chip index, dropped 0.02 per cent to 2,208 while the DSES, the shariah-compliant index, rose 0.03 per cent to 1,372.
Turnover, an important indicator of the market, advanced only 5 per cent to Tk 452 crore.
Of the securities, 36 advanced, 53 declined, and 234 did not show any price movement.
Monno Ceramic Industries topped the gainers' list with a 7.45 per cent increase. Bangladesh Monospool Paper Manufacturing, Apex Foods, Hakkani Pulp & Paper Mills and Kay & Que were also on the list.
Orion Infusion Ltd took the top spot among the heavy losers by shedding 7.5 per cent. KDS Accessories, Salvo Chemical Industry, Jute Spinners, and Lub-rref (Bangladesh) Ltd suffered significant losses as well.
Salvo Chemical Industry was the most-traded stock on the day with its shares worth Tk 34 crore transacted. Monno Ceramic Industries, ntraco Refueling Station, Aamra networks, and Orion Pharma also saw significant turnover.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also fell.
The Caspi, the all-share price index of the bourse in the port city, lost 4 points, or 0.02 per cent, to close at 18,447.
Of the issues, 23 rose, 39 retreated and 99 did not see any price movement.
