Md Zulfikar Ali, a fisheries nutritionist, has been appointed as the new director general of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI).

He took charge of the institute on October 12, according to a press release of BFRI.

Earlier, Ali served the institute as the administration and finance director and research and planning director.

He also worked as the chief scientific officer at the institute's research and management and planning and evaluation departments.

Ali has also been the chief scientific officer and head of the Centre for Marine Fisheries and Technology in Cox's Bazar.
