5.4 million didn’t submit tax return: finance minister
At least 5.4 million taxpayers of the country have not submitted their income tax returns within the stipulated time frame for the current fiscal year 2022-23, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told parliament today.
The minister said this while replying to a question from Awami League MP Habibur Rahman.
Some 2.07 lakh tax returns were submitted online for FY23, up more than three times from 61,000 the previous year, according to the officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Individuals submitted a total of 28.51 lakh tax returns until January 1, the final day for filing income and wealth statements for the fiscal year without any penalty.
