2 suspects in AL leader murder case killed in Badda 'gunfight'
Two suspects in Awami League leader Farhad Hossain murder case were killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Dhaka's Badda area early today.
Deceased Nur Islam and Amit alias Dada were involved with the murder of Farhad Hossain, general secretary of AL’s Badda unit, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (North), told The Daily Star.
Farhad Hossain, 52, was gunned down when he came out of Baitus Salam Jam-e Mosque in North Badda after offering Jummah prayers on June 15.
Nur Islam was directly involved with the murder while Amit was involved in plotting the crime, Mashiur said.
A group of seven people were present there at the scene of murder, Mashiur said.
The criminals carried out the crime centering a conflict regarding sharing extortion money collected from nearby footpath vendors and CNG and auto rickshaw stands and markets, he added.
Upon information that some of them are hiding at an under construction building in Satarkul area of Badda around 3:00am today, multiple teams of DB went there.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they started shooting at the detectives prompting the “gunfight”.
Detectives recovered two firearms from the spot.
