3 of a family injured in Bhasantek fire
Three members of a family sustained burns in a fire in Dhaka's Bhasantek area last night.
The injured are — Jakir Hossain, 45, his wife Rina Begum, 40, and their son Riad, 17.
Lima Khanam, duty officer at the fire service and civil defence headquarters, said on information, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot but locals doused it before they reached.
Munshi Sabbir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bhasantek Police Station, said they primarily suspect that the fire originated from an electric short-circuit.
"We can say for sure after investigation by the fire service," he added.
The injured were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The three were burnt severely when their tin-shed house caught fire with a loud bang around 11:30pm.
Their neighbours rescued them and sent them to hospital, said Ripon Mia, a relative of the victim.
