BNP leaders and activists clashed with police in High Court area of Dhaka when the party chairperson Khaleda Zia was on the way to return her Gulshan residence after appearing before a makeshift court in Bakshibazar this afternoon.

Witnesses said as Khaleda appeared before the Bakshibazar court around 11:05am to submit her written self-defence statement in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.

When Khaleda was heading towards her residence around 4:30pm through the High Court area, many leaders and activists of BNP who were waiting for her there, tried to take to the street in the area by breaking police barricade.

The BNP men hurled brick chips at the law enforcer when police charged batons to disperse them, witnesses said.

Maruf Hossain Sarder, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told The Daily Star that nearly 300-400 people hurled brick chips at the law enforcers when BNP chief Khaleda Zia was arriving in front of the High Court, leaving four-five policemen injured.
