Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the overall work progress of the much-sought 20-kilomtere metro-rail service from Uttara to Motijheel stood at 21 percent now as 35 percent work of its 12-kiolomtere-long first phase from Uttara to Agargaon has been done.
“At present 2.5 kilometer out of 12-kilometer metro rail between Uttara and Agargaon has become visible and the rest of its work will be completed by December 2019. The total work of the project will be done by December 2020,” he said while inaugurating ‘steel screw pile driving work’ under 5th package of MRT Line-6 of the project in front of Krishibid Institution at Farmgate.
The minister said the total metro-rail project is being done in eight packages while currently 12-kilomtere viaduct and nine stations are being constructed from Agargaon to Uttara under third and fourth packages.
According to project details, under fifth packages, 3.2-kilometer viaduct and three metro stations are being built from Agargaon to Karwarbazar while 4.9-kilometer metro-rail from Karwanbazar to Motijheel having four stations is being constructed under sixth packages.
Quader said utility services including gas, water pipes and lines have already been shifted to build the 3.197 km viaduct metro-rail and three stations from Agaragaon to Karwarnbazar.
He said construction work of Mass-Rapid Transport (MRT) Line-6, the country’s first elevated metro rail system in Dhaka city, is going on in full swing targeting to complete it by the end 2020.
Package-5 under MRT Line-6 is being implemented by a joint venture of Japanese Pekken Abenikko and Bangladeshi Abdul Monem Ltd.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), a government company formed to set up the metro rail lines, signed two separate contracts for the package-5 and package-6.
DMTCL managing director MAN Siddique, project director Aftab Uddin Talukder, Abdul Monem Limited deputy managing director Mahiuddin Monem and officials concerned were present at the function
