Ensure level-playing field, groups tell EC
The Election Working Group (EWG), a platform of 28 civil society organisations, today urged the Election Commission (EC) to take measures for ensuring a level-playing field for the councillors and mayoral aspirants of the Dhaka and Chittagong city corporation polls.
The working group also requested the EC to ensure sufficient security measures to alleviate the tense political situation, which is causing fear and anxiety among the voters, EWG director Dr Abdul Alim said while reading a written statement at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Claiming that the candidates have been violating the electoral code of conduct, the EWG urged the commission to take immediate legal actions against the violators.
EWG Steering Committee members Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah and Taleya Rehman, among others, were present at the conference.
The elections to Dhaka and Chittagong city corporation polls will be held on April 28.
