Gazipur city mayor Mannan suspended, again

Gazipur city’s Mayor MA Mannan has been suspended again today, days after the Supreme Court validated his position in respect to implication in a case.

The Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) ministry issued a notice in this regard this afternoon citing reasons that Mannan was implicated in another case.

Bangladesh government had earlier suspended Mannan over implication in a criminal case. However, the top court on April 13 maintained a stay on his suspension validating his mayorship.

“This is another case he has been shown implicated in,” Shahidul Alam Majumder, public relation officer of the LGRD ministry, told The Daily Star.

Mannan’s suspension notice says the move was taken by Bangladesh government after his indictment in a criminal case filed with Joydevpur Police Station.
