HC seeks illegal structures’ list in Dhaka car parking areas
The High Court today directed the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) chairman to submit before it in two months a list of unauthorised structures built at the car parking areas beside roads in Dhaka.
The court also issued a rule upon the government and Rajuk to explain in four weeks as to why they should not be directed to remove these unauthorised structures.
The HC bench of Justice Zinat Ara and Justice AKM Shahidul Huq came up with the order and rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
The organisation filed the petition yesterday saying traffic jam is being created in Dhaka due to construction of unauthorised structures including shops in car parking area beside the city roads.
During today’s hearing, petitioner’s council Manzill Murshid prayed to the court to pass necessary orders in this regard.
Manzill told The Daily Star that the Rajuk had prepared a list of 208 unauthorised structures at Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara during the army-backed caretaker government. The list was submitted before the HC today, he added.
