DU student rape: Court asks police for probe report by March 16
A Dhaka court today asked the Detective Branch (DB) of police to submit the probe report of a case filed over the rape of a Dhaka University student by March 16.
Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order as Abu Siddique, DB inspector and investigation officer of the case, failed to submit a probe report due today.
The DU student was raped on January 5, while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend's house near Shewrapara, after getting off a university bus.
The next day, the girl's father filed a case with Cantonment Police Station.
On January 8, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Majnu, the lone suspect in the case from Shewrapara of Dhaka.
Later, he was handed over to DB, which is now probing the case.
On January 17, Majnu confessed to committing the crime. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain recorded the statement at his chamber on the day.
