Mother, daughter strangled in Ctg
A 50-year-old woman and her daughter were found strangled to death at their home in Mogpukur Par area under Double Mooring Police Station yesterday afternoon.
The deceased are Hosne Ara, 50, wife of Abdul Bari Mia, and her daughter Parvin Akhter, 18, wife of Md Motin, said police. They hailed from Cumilla's Muradnagar area.
Motin, a rickshaw-puller by profession, has gone into hiding after the murder, said investigators. He married Parvin, an apparel worker, one and a half years ago, they added.
“Md Sohel, son of Hosne Ara, first detected the murder when he went to the house around 10:00am and informed police,” said Faruk Ul Haque, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
Marks of injury were found in the necks of the victims, who appeared to have been strangled, he added. The bodies were sent to Chattogram Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Md Sohel, who works at a bakery, told The Daily Star that he went to the house in the morning and found the doors open. He entered the house and found his mother and sister dead, he added.
Inspector (Investigation) Jahir Hossain of Double Mooring police said Parvin and Motin rented the house in Mogultuli one month ago. Sohel lives on the same floor, he added.
Jahir suspects that the murder took place sometime at night and Motin might have been involved.
Reshmi Akhter, another daughter of Hosne Ara, said Motin used to take drugs and torture her sister over family matters.
“Motin killed my mother and sister as they protested against his wrongdoings,” Reshmi said on the spot.
Police said they are looking for Motin, who remained absent from the garage where he keeps his rickshaw since Tuesday morning.
