The housing minister today said Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) cannot shrug off the responsibility of rampant commercialisation in Dhaka's residential areas.
Now it has become quite impossible to differentiate between residential and commercial areas in even places like Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara, Housing and Public Works Minister Engr Mosharraf Hossain said at a mass hearing in Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Rajuk did not stop these unauthorised activities on time and, on the other hand, the owners were equally responsible for it as they gained illegal benefits from such constructions, the minister said.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) organised the mass hearing on Rajuk.
Saying that building plans approved by Rajuk are not implemented properly, the minister urged citizens to take the responsibility to monitor proper implementation of a building plan while carrying out any construction.
It is not possible for Rajuk to be present at all building sites with measurement tapes to enforce the building plan, the minister said.
