Dhaka's development authority is on an eviction drive in capital's biggest kitchen market Karwan Bazar. Businessmen have grouped in protest against the drive.

Some businessmen have been occupying state-owned space illegally, Khandaker Alior Rahman, a director of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), told The Daily Star at the spot.

Meanwhile, hundreds of businessmen grouped in protest against the drive alleging that the drive came unwarranted and without any prior notice. Last reported, a tense situation was prevailing.

However, the Rajuk official said a mobile court does not need to issue a notice for eviction.

Businessmen at Karwan Bazar, one of the biggest retail markets of the city, have repeatedly faced eviction drives in the past. But, they could not be driven away permanently.
