'Sewerage pipe blast' cracks East Rajabazar road

Cracks have developed on a lane at East Rajabazar of Dhaka’s Farmgate area following an “explosion of a sewerage pipe” early today.  

Locals reported of a loud noise around 4:00am which according to the locals was caused by the blast due to “forming of biogases beneath the slabs”, said our reporter from the spot. 

The reporter of The Daily Star noticed several cracks on the street.  

Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Azad informed that they were aware about the incident and informed the concerned authorities.

But he could not confirm the reason behind the blast that disrupted vehucular movement on the road.

Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) and city corporation authorities have already started working in this regard, the OC said.

There are no reports of injuries, said the police official.
