Jamuna Future Park, Bashundhara City malls not opening before Eid

Jamuna Future Park mall in Dhaka will remain closed until the Covid-19 situation improves in the country, despite the government allowing all markets to open from May 10.

"Jamuna Future Park will not reopen before Eid and until coronavirus situation improves," Mohammed Alamgir Alam, director of Jamuna Group, told The Daily Star.

"Even if we try to open the shopping complex and try to maintain distancing measures, the risk of transmission among people still remains in the present situation. To us, lives of people are more important. Hence, we have decided to keep Jamuna Future Park closed until the Covid-19 situation improves in the country," Alam said.

Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, also, will not open before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Ruhul Amin, an official of Bashundhara Group's Security Section, confirmed to The Daily Star.

Naem Nizam, editor of the daily Bangladesh Pratidin, updated a status on his Facebook account confirming it.

Bashundhara City will remain closed during the Eid shopping season to prevent the spread of coronavirus as per decision taken by Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, he wrote.

‘যুবকরা এখনো জানে না ভোট কী। আমাদের আওয়ামী লীগের ভাইরা ভোটটা দিয়েছেন, বলে দিয়েছেন—তোরা আসিবার দরকার নাই, মুই দিয়ে দিনু। স্লোগান ছিল—আমার ভোট আমি দিব, তোমার ভোটও আমি দিব।’
