‘Robber’ killed in Brahmanbaria ‘gunfight’
A suspected robber was killed in a “gunfight” between his cohorts and police in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria early today.
The deceased was identified as Bashir, 40, a resident of Dharanti village in the upazila.
Acting on a tip-off that 10 to 12 robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3:00am, said Ali Arshad, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the “robbers” opened fire on them, prompting the police to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight” between them.
At one stage, Bashir received a bullet and died on the spot while other “robbers” managed to flee.
Three policemen were slightly injured during the alleged gun battle.
Police recovered Bashir’s body from the scene and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
