3 minors killed in Rangpur road crash
Three minors were killed as a bus hit their bicycle in Rangpur city this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam, 13, his brother Abdus Salam, 7 and their cousin Sumaiya, 5, of Kurigram Sadar upazila, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
The accident occurred around 2:15pm at Darshana intersection when Shariful was riding his bicycle with his brother Abdus Salam and cousin Sumaiya, said Abdul Kader Jelani, officer-in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station.
Suddenly, a Syedpur-bound bus from Bogra hit the trio from behind, leaving Sumaiya dead on the spot while Shariful succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
Locals rushed Abdus Salam to the same hospital where he died while undergoing treatment around 6:30pm, the police officer said.
In protest, locals blocked the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway for more than two hours from 2:30pm, demanding punishment of the bus driver.
Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 4:30pm.
The driver of the bus managed to flee.
