Arrest orders for 5 Gaibandha war crimes suspects

A tribunal in Dhaka today issued arrest warrant against five Gaibandha men for their alleged involvement with crimes during the 1971 Liberation War.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by its chief Justice Anwarul Haque passed the order in response of a petition filed by the prosecution.

The ICT also showed arrested Ranju Miah, another person from Gaibandha, in the case. He was arrested earlier in another case and now remains in jail.

Prosecutor Hrishikesh Saha, in the petition, said the five men need to be arrested and kept in jail for the sake of proper investigation in the case.

Investigators found evidence of their involvement in mass killing committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

The court fixed July 27 as the next date of hearing.
