Bank branches at markets to stay open until July 4
To facilitate the shopping spree ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, branches of banks around marketplaces all over the country will remain open until July 4.
Branches in and around the marketplaces of the country will remain open on July 2 (Saturday), July 3 (Sunday), which is a holiday, and July 4 (Monday), Anwarul Islam, deputy spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, told The Daily Star.
During this time, these branches will engage only in the activities of money withdrawal and deposit, he also said.
After the government declared July 4 a holiday and in the process made a nine day straight holiday for civil servants during Eid, banks followed the same.
The Bangladesh Bank order, that circulated the nine-day holiday, spread a sense of cash urgency among all. Now, putting such urgency at ease, the central bank has decided to keep banks open at big markets until July 4.
