Boy beaten dead in Barguna, 1 held
After medieval style torture to death of two teenagers, now a madrasa boy has been allegedly beaten to death in Barguna’s Taltali upazila.
This time, the boy Rabiul Awal, 10, a fourth grader of Farazibari Dakhil Madrasa, was beaten dead for “stealing fish”, our Patuakhali correspondent reports.
Bijoy Basak, superintendent of district police, confirmed the incident and said the victim’s body was recovered from a local canal around 5:00pm yesterday.
The culprit Miraj, 25, has been arrested, he said. “We found injury marks on the victim’s right eye. Legal actions will be taken after proper investigation.”
Locals and family claimed that Rabiul was beaten to death by Miraj, a fisherman, in Amkhola village over allegations of “stealing fish”.
Babul Akhter, officer-in-charge of Taltali Police Station, said today the accused was arrested as the victim’s father filed a case in this connection.
The body was sent to Barguna General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Earlier, a 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajon was beaten to death by brutes in Sylhet – an incident that triggered a wave of outrage throughout the country.
Yesterday, news surfaced of another 13-year-old Rakib was tortured to death in Khulna. Reports had it that he was pumped air into his cavity through his rectum.
