Brahmanbaria war crimes suspect arrested
Police today arrested a war crimes suspect of Brahmanbaria after a special tribunal issued arrest warrant against him for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Emdadul Haque, 78, was the chief of Peace Committee of Chunta Union in the district during 1971 war, according to the prosecution.
He was arrested from his Kafrul residence in the capital in the afternoon, police sources said.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 led by Justice Anwarul Haque today issued the arrest warrant after prosecution prayed to the tribunal.
The tribunal fixed February 16 for the next hearing.
Prosecutor Rizia Sultana Chaman told the tribunal that investigators so far interrogated 25 and found two specific charges against Emdadul.
Witnesses are being threatened by the war crimes suspect, Chaman alleged.
